Hi, I am Marie. I am from Germany and I live in Iceland since 2014. I always wanted to come to Iceland since I was 9 years old. Probably like every girl in that age, I was “infected” via the Icelandic horse (don’t call it pony) and somehow I wasn’t able to shake this severe Iceland virus off ever since. I started to read Icelandic literature and listen to all music I could find from this chilly island in the middle of the North Atlantic Ocean. After I finished grammar school, I applied for the European Volunteer Service several times, but it wasn’t suppose to happen until 7 years later I could finally make my dream come true and head North to start being a volunteer in the middle of nowhere – to be precise the middle of nowhere in Þórsmörk, South Iceland.
What started out as an (iceland) “experiment” limited to eight months, has now become over 4 years. And this beautiful island keeps on surprising me. How life is in Iceland in general, in Reykjavík in particular, what I am doing here and what I experience – all this you can find on my blog “icelandexperiment”.
